A leader said something to me recently that I’ve heard in different forms all month: “I feel like I’m meant to be ahead of this AI wave… but inside I’m still catching up with myself.” On the outside, they were doing well — respected by their team, steady performance, good role. But underneath, they were carrying a quiet story that many leaders never say out loud: “If I slow down long enough to really look at this, I might find out I’m already behind.”
The real shift didn’t come from understanding a tool or learning a technique. It came from noticing the story they were holding and recognising that it came from a different chapter of their career — one built around control, certainty and staying ahead by sheer effort. Once we explored that, the tension eased. They could think more clearly about the future without the background fear of being exposed. And they could finally make sense of change from a grounded place instead of a defensive one.
Most leaders don’t talk about this, but many are carrying some version of that story right now. If any of this feels familiar, you’re not on your own. And if you want a calm space to work through it, I’m here.
